UVM Student Wins Sustainability Internship Competition

2018 Jan 25

Alison Schwartz, who is majoring in Environmental Sciences at the University of Vermont, has been named a Next Generation Scholar by Manomet, a non-profit working on science-based, cooperative solutions to environmental problems. Schwartz was one of three students who won the honor at Manomet's bi-annual U360 Business Sustainability Student Competition in Portland, Oregon.

Schwartz spent the fall 2017 semester as a Manomet U360 Business Sustainability Intern, working with a chain of grocery stores in New England to improve its sustainability practices. As part of this experiential internship, the Business Sustainability Student Competition marks the end of each participating student's semester and showcases what they learned.

The three winners were selected from 17 competing students who all presented their sustainability action plans. The award comes with a $250 scholarship.

Six University of Vermont students participated in the internship program and competition this year.
