Reading Resident Brendan Sage Inducted into National History Honor Society

Brendan T. Sage of Reading, MA, was among 40 University of Vermont students initiated into the Alpha Alpha Psi chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honor society, at an induction ceremony held in April.

Phi Alpha Theta is a professional society, established in 1921, whose mission is to promote the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians.The University of Vermont chapter, Alpha Alpha Psi, was chartered in 1982. Undergraduate students who have completed at least fifteen credit hours in history courses at UVM with a 3.5 grade point average and an overall grade point average of 3.4 are eligible for membership. History M.A. students are required to maintain a 3.67 grade point average in their graduate studies.

Chartered in 1791, UVM was the first college or university in the United States that did not give preference to a religious sect in its charter. UVM now has nearly 10,460 undergraduates in eight schools and colleges, 1,550 graduate students and 450 medical students. As a small, comprehensive university, it blends the academic heritage of a private university with services missions in the land-grant tradition.
