Katchen McElwain Featured in Anthology of Best Undergraduate Investigative Journalism

2017 Dec 13

Katchen McElwain, of Burlington, VT, was one of six University of Vermont students featured in the new book Censored 2018: Press Freedoms in a 'Post Truth' Society. McElwain was included for her news story, "The Real Fraud of the 2016 Election: GOP Voter Suppression".

An annual anthology published by California-based media watchdog organization Project Censored, Censored 2018 compiles the top 25 student-written investigative news stories from the past year. This year, students' articles were selected from a pool of 350 entries from 12 different colleges.

McElwain, a Public Communication major, developed and submitted her story as part of a spring 2017 class, Journalism 2.0, taught by Community Development and Applied Economics professor Rob Williams.

Five other UVM students were also included in the anthology. Stories written by University of Vermont students make up nearly 25 percent of this year's stories.
