Corinne Johnson Wins Scholarship for Competitive Engineering Research Internship in Germany

2016 Apr 20

Mechanical engineering sophomore Corinne Johnson, of Acton, Massachusetts, has been awarded a scholarship to participate in the German Academic Exchange Program's Research Internships in Science and Engineering (DAAD-RISE) program at the Rheinisch-Westfalische Technische Hochschule in Aachen, Germany.

DAAD-RISE offers opportunities for science and engineering undergraduates from the U.S., Canada and the U.K. to spend a summer in Germany, working with research groups and gaining practical experience at top universities and institutions. Annually the award fully funds approximately 300 participants.

Johnson is excited for the opportunity to work with an engineering doctoral candidate on a microstructures optical plastic components project. Still, her research interests in biomedical and materials engineering are not the only factors that led to her interest in DAAD-RISE. Johnson spent five years in Germany as a child and has wanted to return ever since. As such, she sees DAAD-RISE as "the perfect opportunity to get hands-on engineering experience and spend time in Germany."
